"Food Safety for the Region of South-East Europe" Study Tour Germany, November 19-23.2012

In the framework of the plans and programs for 2012 in the region of south-east Europe, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in close cooperation with its partner, the international foundation Balkan Net and the Michel Institute from Germany, the project "Food Safety for the Region of South-East Europe" has been developed and is being implemented. The project is further supported by the partner organizations - Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Macedonia and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

The project aims to improve the conditions in the operations and enable sustainable development of institutions and companies by introducing and implementing the EU standards in the area of food safety in the areas of production,  distribution and sale of food products.

The project applies a combination of theoretical approaches and practice-oriented training events to meet the demands of the target groups. The project is tailored according to the demands expressed by the companies and institutions and the recommendations given by the core group of experts during the first regional workshop that took place in September 2011 in Macedonia.

With regards to the successful implementation of the project workshops in Skopje and Belgrade, as well as the successful presentation of the project on the Alumni Conference in Sarajevo, Balkan Net on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and in close cooperation with the regional project partners, organized a Study Tour to Germany to suit the requirements of the selected target group members. The study tour in Germany was co-organized by the German consulting company AMIK and included participants from Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina coming from the major stakeholders in the food sector. It included visits and interactive exchange with adequate scientific institutions and organizations, such as faculties and institutes, food producing companies, chambers and associations and cluster organizations located entirely on the territory in the region of North-Rhine Westphalia.

The Study Tour took place from November 19th to 23th, 2012 in Germany.
