Regional Workshop on the Use of Geothermal Energy in Municipal Energy Systems,

December 04, 2013; Veles, Macedonia

Geothermal energy is the least known renewable energy source. Heat from the earth can be used as an energy source in many ways, from large and complex power stations to small and relatively simple pumping systems. South-eastern Europe enjoys rich geothermal potential. Geothermal energy can provide an important contribution towards the sustainable use of energy. Besides that, it is a renewable energy source that can supply base load power.

Therefore, Balkan Net and its partners are planning to conduct a workshop on the use of geothermal energy in municipal energy systems.

Geothermal energy is of great importance for the municipalities in meaning of money savings, environment protection and improvement of the municipal cooperation.

Main objectives of the workshop are raising awareness for the use of geothermal energy in the municipal energy mix – providing applicable knowledge for the development of municipal geothermal projects.

Participants: Key personal from interested municipalities, representatives from municipal associations, administration, science, experts from GIZ ORF EE and NGOs.
